Vocabulary

grind – ground(past)  to cut into very small pieces

eg: You forgot to grind the beans, this coffee is so weak.

Coffee – water filtered through ground coffee beans

eg: Coffee comes from beans before they grind them.   After they grind the beans they filter water through it.

Espresso – powerful kind of coffee, served in a small cup or with milk, as a Latte

eg: I drank two shots of espresso this morning.

Latte – a drink with shots of espresso and steamed milk

Mocha – kind of latte with mocha powder (chocolate) flavor added.

Machiato – a kind of latte that you pour the shots of espresso through the foam of the steamed milk

Americano – shots of espresso with hot water.

eg: I don’t know the difference between an American and a coffee.

cappuccino – shots of espresso with mostly foam

eg: Cappuccinos are not really popular.

foam – many small bubbles close together, on top of coffee, beer

eg: There is a little foam on top of lattes.

Turkish coffee – strong espresso served in a small cup, with the coffee grounds(bits of coffee beans) in the cup

eg: Tuk restaurant is just outside of Jing’An metro station that has turkish coffee.

pasta – Italian noodles

eg: There are so many kinds of pasta.

steam V. – to cook with steam N. (hot air with water)

eg: Lattes are made with steamed milk.

dumplings – jiaozi bao zi

brew V.– to make a drink by letting something sit in hot water, like Tea, Coffee, Beer.

eg: Do you want me to brew some tea for you?
