Vocabulary

I like to do it my own way

handle – to take of something or deal with it, be able to do it

eg: I can’t handle this cold weather.

literal adj. – the original or written meaning of the word

eg: The literal meaning is from the dictionary.      What’s up? (What is up/ above us?)

figurative – new meaning or idea from a word

eg: The figurative meaning of what’s up, is a greeting.     What’s up?   (how is everything?/ what is happening?)

Is that literal or figurative?

Phrasal Verbs – usually two words used together to make a new meaning.

back out – to cancel or quit before you do something

eg: My wife backed out of our wedding, I’m so sad.

back up – to support or help

eg: It’s ok that my wife left, because she didn’t back me up for my business.

eg: I could teach a yoga class with 50 people, but I need someone to back me up.

Homework
