Vocabulary
Sprinkle – (with an object) to add a small amount, (without an object) to rain lightly
Ex. After finishing the cake, she sprinkled chocolate flakes on top for decoration.
Ex. I brought my umbrella because the weather forecast predicted heavy rain, but it’s only sprinkling outside.
Monsoon – the seasonal heavy rains in South Asia , 季风
Rain Check – delay due to the weather, (casually) to move to a later date
Ex. “Hey! We’re still having dinner tonight, right?”
“I completely forgot! Can we have a rain check?”
Flake – a thin piece of something, usually used for Chocolate, Gold, Pepper, or Snow; (casual) to not show up to a date*
*Note: this meaning comes from the fact that it is so easy for a flake to be blown away. A more well-known expression for the same action is “to stand up.”
Ex. Even though we had planned to get dinner together, he just flaked and stood me up; I ended up eating alone. He didn’t even ask for a rain check!
