Vocabulary

etiquette – a set of behaviours for certain situations

eg: “Classroom etiquette might be different in America.”

manners – ways of behaving with reference to polite standards, can be good or bad, or have none

eg: “You should keep your good manners and try to correct the bad ones.”

disrupt – to upset the order of something

eg: “If any student disrupts the class, the teacher might make the class stay late to finish the lesson.”

generalizations – (-ize to make) (-tion make it noun)

eg: “Generalizations about people from different countries are often misleading.” “People shouldn’t use generalizations to judge others.”

capitalism – a form of government, based on a free market. Business with better prices and practices will naturally succeed. The competition between companies will result in a better and more affordable product for the people.

communism – a form of government in which many business are state owned. The country controls most of things happening in it.

obsolescence – something will become obsolete, or no longer useful. because it is too old or inefficient.

Why does capitalism work or does not work?

Brainstorming:

Capitalism drives down prices for people, because of the competition between businesses.

People will have a better quality of life.

It thwarts advancement of technology through planned obsolescence.

It gives power to the people and stops the government from becoming too powerful.

Checks and balances provide an anti-fragile system. Not easily broken.

People have rights and freedom.
