For the last 20 years or so the issue of punishment has been subject to nothing but endless dispute. Punishment is a way / one of the ways to help children learn how to distinguish between right and wrong and is used by their parents and teachers. Basically, i think punishment is useful for parents and teachers to teach children to know right and wrong, however, it is important that the sort of punishment is not overly / too serious.

Children are young and inexperienced, which means that they often forget the difference between right and wrong, even though they have learned the distinction before. In order to prevent childrens bad behaviour parents and teachers should be allowed to use punishment which is/as it is an important method to tell children that they misbehaved / behaved badly and they must correct it.

However, the sort of punishment that should be allowed to be given must be clear. As children are at an early age, severe physical / corporal punishment is not appropriate. If children do the wrong thing, they should be punished by doing something like some housework or helping others. I think the punishment should be fair and appropriate, ensuring that overly severe punishments are not handed out for minor issues.

Parents and teachers can’t ask children to do something which exceeds / goes beyond their ability as they are the leaders and idols of children. Punishment is just one way that the parents and teachers have to help the children to learn the distinction deeply. On the other hand, the elders always have another way to teach / instil good behaviour to / in children.

Personally I agree that punishment is necessary to help children learn the difference between right and wrong, but it doesn’t mean I approve of all kinds of punishment.
