Matriarchy – an environment where women are in control

Monarch = the supreme leader of a state, country etc = a Queen or a King
Monarchy = a type of rule over a country (the United Kingdom, Thailand etc)

to honk vb (the horn) = to activate a car’s horn
 
steppe (not as cold) =/= tundra (colder)

yurt = a Mongolian tent

it’s very easy to lost your way – it’s very easy to lose your way / to get lost

disorienting = which causes a person to become confused about their location
disorientating = alternative spelling of disorienting, mainly UK.

I didn’t know what to make of it = I couldn’t understand what it was or what it meant and therefore could not form an opinion about it.

close from – close to =/= far from

flashy = attention- getting, attractive, which stands out

flamboyant adj = a show-off, said about somebody who wants to attract attention.

E.g. He always had liked being seen in flashy cars, so he didn’t want to miss an opportunity like that.
