Turn On and off – technology/electronics
Eg. Turn on the computer.
Eg. Turn off the computer.
Eg. Turn on the air conditioning
Eg. Turn off the air conditioning.
Take off: literally: to take off/ figuratively: to leave.
Eg. I will take off my hat.
Eg. I have to take off = I have to leave.
Eg. Put on my hat.
Take on: to take a responsibility.
Eg. I will take on this project.
Turn out: the number of people that attended.
Eg. The turn out for the birthday party was very good. = lots of people attended.
Literal vs. figurative
Literal (lit – er – ul): (adj.) 字面意义的 it actually happened/it could actually happen.
Eg. I was laughing out loud.
Eg. I literally tripped and fell in front of the crowd.
Figurative (fig – yer – ah – tiv): (adj.) 比喻的 metaphorically/ didn’t actually happen/ wouldn’t happen.
Eg. My husband is driving my crazy, I want to kill him.
Eg. I figuratively got back in the saddle. = I am trying it again.
Saddle: the leather seat that you put onto a horse in order to ride it.
Review:
Tragedy: (noun) a very sad thing/ a very sad incident (usually someone has died.)
Eg. I don’t find a new job, that’s a tragedy.
Eg. After the tragedy at Beijing Park Zoo they will maybe change the rules about the tiger cage.

Eg. Was it a success?
Window shopping: looking at things to buy, but not buying them.
I like shopping shoes than clothes – I like shopping for shoes more than clothes

Eg. They are very beautiful.
My money is keeping – I saved my money
Running shoes/tennis shoes: shoes that are more comfortable and usually designed to exercise in.
Heels: shoes that are higher in the back, to make women’s legs look longer.
Dresser: a piece of furniture that has drawers to store thing in.
A cheap person: a person who doesn’t want to spend money.
Eg. I am a cheap person/ I am very cheap.
DVD: a movie on a disc.
I’m not really like eating outside food – I don’t really like eating out very much
MSG: mono-sodium glutamate 谷氨酸一钠盐
A picky eater: someone who is very particular about what they eat. They refuse to eat certain things.
“I like what I like, and I hate everything else” – and that’s okay!!
