Vocabulary

formality – something done as part of the process, but doesn’t have a real purpose

eg: “Having the interview is just a formality, he already got the job.”

envy V. – the desire to have what another person has

eg: “I envy her, because she gets to go to Paris.”

jealous adj. – to feel like you want what another person has

eg: “I’m jealous that she gets to go to Paris.”

Q: When did they incorporate assessments into the consultant interview process?

A: I don’t know when they incorporated assessments into the consultant interview process. It must have been about 20 years ago.

Q: Do you think the assessments are arbitrary, just as a formality?  

A: These assessments are arbitrary for the clients particular purpose. They are done as a formality

Grammar

have not gotten/had so much experience with assessments – participle meaning (have been), from Grammar which tells us an event happened in the past until now.

I don’t have so much experience. this have is a different meaning, which refers to possession.

I have had a dog for ten years.   

Do I have a dog now? yes

When did I get the dog? ten years ago

I haven’t had a dog for ten years.

Do I have a dog now? No

When did I get the dog? We can’t know from this sentence.

When did I stop having a dog? Ten years ago.

How long have I not had a dog? Ten years.
