tense – 1. stretched tight eg: “My back is really tense, because we just moved to a new home the other day, and I carried a lot of stuff.”

2. mentally tense, or nervous eg: “Tom seems a bit tense, maybe he broke some rules and is afraid to get caught.”

stretch v. to pull something, making it larger or longer than it usually is.

eg: “Don’t stretch the rope or it will break.”

stretched out adj. – stretched too much, now it’s shape is loose or larger than normal.

eg: “My shirt got stretched out from the washing machine.”

dense – having a lot of things or parts in a space

eg: “The forest was only 10km2, but it had over 10,000 tress, it is a very dense forest.”

spread out – a few things in a large area or long time

eg: “Many cities in China are spread out, compared to HK and SH.”

spread thin – take on too many things or projects, so that you can’t do all of them well.

eg: “Don’t spread yourself too thin, or you won’t be able to get everything done.” “We don’t have enough butter, so it will be spread really thin over the toast.” “The chilli is spread thin on the kebab(kao chuan) so it won’t be very spicy.”

take on – to accept or agree that something is your responsibility, to accept and act upon or comply with

eg: “I won’t take on any project unless I’m sure I can finish it.”

comply – to follow or obey

eg: “People must comply with the government’s laws.”

level headed – think logically, and calm
