stagnant – no movement, staying completely still

eg: “Stagnant water is not safe to drink.”     “If you’re doing something you’re not interested in, then your work can become stagnant.”

stale – not fresh

eg: “Stale bread is safe to eat, but not very good.”      “If you think women should be housewives after they are married, then you’re kind of stale.”

brew – to make a drink with hot water, can be cooled after, as with with Beer

eg: “Can you brew coffee at home?”

give/cut sb. some slack – to be lenient on someone, not strict punishment

eg: “I was late but they cut me some slack because I’m usually early.”
