Racket:  a lot of noise.  / loud noise.

Eg.  A baby is crying and making a lot of racket.

Chew someone out:  to reprimand someone/ to yell at them for something they did wrong.

Tag along:  go with.

Tracks:  footprints

“cover your tracks”:  hide your footprints/hide the evidence from being traced back to you.

Eg.  Serial killers cover their tracks.

Gimmick:  a plan or scheme to get someone’s attention/ or approval.

Eg.  Students in the classroom tried some gimmicks to get the teachers attention.

Permanent:  forever/ not washable.

Self-portrait:  a picture you draw of yourself.

Close call:  you barely escaped from danger/trouble.

Eg.  If you almost get hit by a truck that would be a close call.

Eg.  I had a close call yesterday, I almost lost my phone.

Potty: a child’s way to say “toilet”

Scrape:  to brush against sth, to collect sth by scraping.   (think about traditional Chinese medicine scraping)

Eg.  I’m scraping the bottom of my bowl.

Eg.  I scraped my arm when I fell.

Appetite:  how hungry you are/ or how much you eat.

Eg.  I have an appetite for something.
