Vocabulary

In general – usually

e.g. In general, do you like to read?

Beefy – 肉肉

e.g. Mr. Dursley was a big, beefy man.

Mustache –Â èƒ¡å­ above your lip

Beard – èƒ¡å­ under your lip

Facial hair – 胡å­

Charity – when you give money to organisations who will distribute it to people in need

e.g. Movember is a charity.

To crane – to stick out your neck (usually in order to see something better)

e.g. I had to crane my neck to see what was going on on stage

Good-for-nothing – expression: “there’s nothing that you’re good for”, very bad

e.g. The students thought all the homework was good-for-nothing!

To hit it off – to immediately get along very well

e.g. Allison and her husband immediately hit it off.

Siblings – a brother or a sister

e.g. A lot of siblings fight with each other when they’re young.

A grey Tuesday – means the weather was grey, very cloudy

e.g. This last Tuesday was very grey.

To hum – to quietly sing in yourself

e.g. I was humming on my way to work today!

To chuckle or to chortle – to laugh quietly

e.g. I made a bad joke at the party but my friend still chuckled a little bit.

To throw a tantrum – to suddenly become very unreasonably angry

e.g. Little kids don’t know how to control their emotions and often throw tantrums.

Peculiar – strange

e.g. I saw a guy dressed like a horse on the subway today. That was pretty peculiar.

To jerk your head around – to turn your head around very fast

e.g. I walked past the guy dressed like a horse and I jerked my head around to watch him a little longer.

Getup – slang for outfit

e.g. The guy in the subway was wearing a weird getup.

Weirdo – someone who is weird or strange

e.g. The guy in the subway dressed as a horse was a weirdo.
