Vocabulary

glitch – small technical error

e.g. Tanya’s computer has a ton of glitches. The screen keeps flickering!

To flicker – é—ª (to go on and off all the time)

Optimistic – 积æž

e.g. Tanya optimistically thinks that her laptop will magically repair itself.

Naive – innocent (more of a bad meaning than a good meaning)

e.g. A friend of mine always believes everything people say to her. She’s pretty naive.

Do you watch the news? – have you seen the news on the television?

To defeat someone – to win against someone, be the victor

e.g. Trump defeated Clinton in the US presidential election.

Rival – someone you fight with, a competitor

e.g. Clinton and Trump were rivals in the US presidential election.

To be victorious – 胜利, to win a battle. You’ve had a victory and you are victorious.

e.g. Trump celebrated his victory over Clinton after the election.

Allies – the opposite of rivals. People who work together are allies

e.g. In the second world war, Belgium and France were allies.

To collaborate – to work together

e.g. Allies usually collaborate to achieve their goal.

uncertain – ä¸å†³å®šï¼Œthe opposite of certain.

e.g. I’m uncertain about what I want to eat tonight for dinner.

beneficial – something that gives benefits is beneficial

e.g. Carol just read an article that says reading is beneficial for your brain.
