Historic – revolutionary, pivotal, of great importance and impact

Pivotal – historic, of great importance and impact
Ex. The historic “warring states” period in Chinese history was pivotal in the development of China’s modern borders.

Critical – 1-judgmental (sounds negative) or 2-essential/crucial* (sounds neutral)
Ex. My parents are very 1critical of me when it comes to school. If I don’t score well, I will get in trouble.
Ex. Working together is 2-critical when it comes to group projects.
*Note: the words crucial and critical have almost the same meaning and feeling.

Presumptuous – assuming something will happen (adj)

Imply
– to say or show indirectly

Phrases

To keep something short and sweet means to use a minimal amount of words.

The difference between help and the help is that “help” refers to helping someone, while “the help” refers to maids, butlers, and servants as a group.

To fare well in something means to be successful or do well in something.

Pronunciation

Presumptuous (pre-ZUMP-shoe-iss, often pronounced with only three syllables pre-ZUMP-shwiss)
