Romanticized – made to look happy

Atrocity- terrible or cruel thing

Ex. Many atrocities were committed against the Native Americans.

Atrocious – unacceptably cruel

Ex. The histories of many colonies are atrocious.

Bitter-sweet – both happy and sad at the same time

Indigenous – original, usually referring to the first people in a land
