Vocabulary

hat – something you wear only on your head eg: “the baseball hat is maybe now the most common hat.”

beanie – winter hat, to keep your head and ears warm eg: ” I only have one beanie, because it’s not too cold in Shanghai.”

sweater – heavy, warm top eg: “She wears a sweater, even in the summer.” (she wears – means she usually wears)

coat – heavy outer layer of clothing, to keep you warm in winter “She is wearing a coat, but it’s not so cold outside.” (she is wearing – means she is wearing it now)

jacket – lighter than a coat, outer layer to keep you warm eg: “He usually wears a jacket to work.”

hood – attached to a jacket or coat or sweater, to cover your head “This sweater doesn’t have a hood.”

zip-up sweater – a sweater with a zipper eg: “Zip-up sweaters are not as comfortable as regular sweaters.”

hoodie – american slang for a hooded(adj) sweatshirt eg: “Your hoodie doesn’t have a collar.” “My coat has a big collar.”

pants  – ku zi eg: “I want to buy a new pair of pants.”

shorts – duan ku zi eg: “I usually wear shorts in the summer, because it’s too hot to wear pants.”

socks – only worn on your feet and legs eg: “Some people wear socks with sandals, but I think it must be uncomfortable.”

leggings – tight clothes, like pants, usually worn by women. eg: “Leggings are usually warmer than pants.”
