Vocabulary

Arise (v): 1- to happen.
E.g.: Should the opportunity arise, I’d love to go to China.
E.g.: Could you work on Saturday, should the need arise (= if it were to be necessary)?
E.g.: Are there any matters arising from (= caused by) the last meeting?

Relevant (adj): 1-  closely connected or appropriate to what is being done or considered. 2-
appropriate to the current time, period, or circumstances; of contemporary interest.
E.g.: What small companies need is relevant advice.
E.g.: Critics may find themselves unable to stay relevant in a changing world.

Come up with (v): 1- to suggest or think of an idea or plan.
E.g.: She’s come up with some amazing scheme to double her income.

Bring up (v): 1- ​to talk about something.
E.g.: I hate to bring up business at lunch.

Raise (v): 1- to cause to exist.
E.g.: Her answers raised doubts/fears/suspicions in my mind.
E.g.: This discussion has raised many important issues/problems.

Racism (n): 1- the belief that people’s qualities are influenced by their race and that the members of other races are not as good as the members of your own, or the resulting unfair treatment of members of other races.
E.g.: The authorities are taking steps to fight racism in schools.

Slave (n): 1- a person who is legally owned by someone else and has to work for that person.
E.g.: Black slaves used to work on the cotton plantations of the southern United States.

Abolish (v): 1- to end an activity or custom officially.
E.g.: Slavery in America was abolished in 1833.
