an eye for an eye, makes the whole world blind   (Eventually nobody will have eyes)

drag down – to slowly pull to a lower level

eg: Unhealthy competition can drag people down.

backlash – a strong public reaction against something

eg: There’s some backlash against outsiders in Shanghai.

gray area – not one thing or another thing, it is in between them

eg: Whether cantonese is another language or not, is a gray area.

ethnicity – group of people based on DNA/Culture

eg: There are 56 ethnicities in China.

mayor – leader of a city

eg: The mayor of San Francisco is Chinese.
