to pan out = for things to go well, to bring results
E.g.
I had a plan to get rich quick, but it didn’t pan out.
calendar year =/= financial year (FY)
to make up for = to compensate
E.g.
We need to work on Saturday to make up for the day off.
New Year’s Day = Jan 1
