Vocabulary

benefits –

maternity leave – the days off a woman gets after she gave birth

e.g. Almost all Western countries have some form of maternity leave.

rumour – 传言 something you heard, but you’re not sure it’s true

e.g. There’s a rumour going around that Tanya’s real hair color is blonde.

to make a joke – 笑话 to say something funny

e.g. I like to tell my students jokes.

the public sector – companies that belong to the government

e.g. In most countries , water companies and schools belong to the public sector.

the private sector – companies that don’t belong to the government

e.g. Most food-related companies belong to the private sector.
