Vocabulary

packaging – 包装 what something’s wrapped in

e.g. Jasmine really likes the packaging of her tea bottle.

education – 教育 the whole of things that you’ve been taught

e.g. The Chinese education system is very different from the American education system.

midterms – when you have exams in the middle of the semester

e.g. Most high school and university students have midterms right now.

semester – 学期 half of a school year

e.g. When a school year is divided into two parts, we call those parts semesters.

chain store – 连锁商店 a consumer brand/company with different branches everywhere

e.g. McDonald’s is a very popular food chain restaurant.

soup dumplings – 馄饨

e.g. Jasmine doesnt like to eat soup dumplings.

to be granted admission – to be allowed entrance

e.g. My friend was granted admission at Jiaotong university! I’m so happy for him.

scholarship – 奖学金 when you get money from an institution to go to school

e.g. My friend got a scholarship to go to university in the US.

a couple – boyfriend girlfriend

e.g. That couple is so cute!

to have influence – 有影响 to have the ability to change what people think or do

e.g. My boyfriend has a lot of influence over me.

to appear – 出现 to suddenly be there

e.g. Jasmine suddenly appeared out of the bushes.

no problem – 没问题

risk – something that puts you in danger

e.g. You’re taking a serious risk climbing that mountain without a helmet
