Vocabulary
used to (v) – something you did before, but don’t do anymore. eg: “I used to live in Harbin.” “I used to play soccer sometimes, but I hurt one of my toes so now I just play it a bit.” “I used to play soccer, but I hurt my toe, so now I seldom play.” “I seldom play soccer, but I used to play a lot.”
(be) used to – something has become normal or common for you. eg: “I am used to the cold weather, because I’m from Harbin.” “I’m used to taking the metro to work.” “I never liked crowded places, but after I moved to China I got used to it.” “You have to get used to it.”
crowded – too many people or things in one place eg: “The subway in Beijing is more crowded than in Shanghai.”
got – become eg: “I got hungry after smelling all the good food nearby.”
used(adj) – not new, eg: “He bought a used car.”
second hand – er shou de – used product eg: “I always buy second hand sofas, because they are still in good condition.”
seldom – not often eg: “They seldom work overtime, but often come in early to work.”
Pronunciation
Have to – hafta “I hafta go to work.”
used to – useta “I useta work in Beijing”
to – te or t’ eg: “I need t’ go t’ the store.”
Q: Were you busy last week?
A: I wasn’t very busy
Q: Did you work overtime today?
A: Yes I worked overtime.
Q: How many clients did you call this week?
A: Last week I called two clients, one lives in Beijing, the other lives in Fujian.
Q: How many colleagues did you work with today.
A: Today I worked with five colleagues.
