Vocabulary

really sick,

major sickness

minor sickness

It hasn’t been proven to be contagious, but it could be.

immune system – your body’s defenses against sickness or disease

eg: “You can build up your immune system by being exposed to many different things.”

immune – can not be affected by

eg: “He is not thin-skinned, so he is almost immune to insults.”

thin-skinned – very sensitive, emotionally affected by things easily

eg: “Most bullies are pretty think-skinned.”

diplomatic immunity – foreign government diplomats are not affected by the country’s law

eg: “They want to maintain their country’s friendship, so he didn’t abuse his diplomatic immunity.”

symptom – a change which shows that something bad exists

eg: “A lot of medicine only treats the symptom, not the actual problem.”

ambassador – a representative of a foreign country

eg: “The ambassador is the highest level diplomat.”

encyclopedia – a resource book with knowledge about everything

eg: “Encyclopedia’s are more reliable than internet research.”

let – to allow something to happen, give permission

eg: “The teacher let me retake the test because I was sick.”

make – to force something to happen

eg: “He made me do my homework before I could go play football.

hype – to make something seem more exciting and better

eg: “Overhyped things usually don’t meet expectations.”
