F2F Class Notes 23rd June (Harmony)
Review:
Pushover: a person who is easily “pushed over”, they can’t say no.
Syllable – smallest part of a word
Storytelling:
My favorite summer memory is the summer after my last test in highschool. Because I have got my approval from University and didn’t have any homework to finish. I think it’s quite good. I went to play computer games with my classmates, it was crazy. We could play the whole day, even in the deep night. And didn’t need to sleep. And during the daytime we went out to go shopping and the riding bicycle under the sparkling sun. And went to the little river to swim, so at the summer all of us became black.
I made a lot of plans before the summer, but when it came I haven’t finished anything. Only I have achieved is I watched a lot of videos which I really wanted to watch before that. Like some Japanese animation.
You know in our culture, if you get the invitation from the University you must invite your classmates and family to have a dinner. I’m not sure in Shanghai but in my hometown it’s a tradition. We must have a big dinner to celebrate, so during the summer we went to a lot of celebration dinners. Always eat every day, all day. But I didn’t get fat, because I was young.
In the end it’s a good memory for me to review anytime.
Edited:
My favorite summer memory is from the summer after my last test in high school. Because I had gotten my acceptance letter from University and didn’t have any homework to finish. I think it was quite good. I went to play computer games with my classmates everyday, which was crazy. We could play for the whole day, even late into the night and didn’t need to sleep. During the daytime we went out shopping and riding bicycles under the sparkling/shining sun. Besides that, we went to the river to play in the water, so after that summer all of us became dark/tanned.
I made a lot of plans before the summer, but when it ended I hadn’t finished anything. The only thing I achieved is that I watched a lot of videos which I really wanted to watch before that, like some Japanese animation.
There is a part of our culture that if a student gets an acceptance letter from a University the family needs to invite the classmates, teachers and relatives to have a dinner. I’m not sure if there’s the same culture in Shanghai but in my hometown it’s a tradition. We always have a big dinner to celebrate, so during the summer my classmates and I went to a lot of celebration dinners. We ate every day, all day. But we didn’t get fatter, because we were young.
Generally, that whole summer is a good memory for me.
Eg. The only thing that I achieved was watching a lot of videos that I had been waiting to see/watch.
*** watch your tense (had/have)
*** try to slowly stop using “and” to start every sentence.
Had – past tense
Having – current
Will have – future
Eg. We had noodles for dinner last night.
Eg. We are having noodles for dinner right now.
Eg. We will have noodles for dinner tomorrow.
Eg. I have finished my homework (current).
Eg. I have to finish my homework (current).
Eg. I haven’t seen that movie before. (current)
Eg. I hadn’t seen that movie before (you’ve seen it now).
Eg. I have to watch that movie tomorrow (future).
Eg. I have got my acceptance letter so I don’t have to worry about anything this summer. (back in time)
