Writing exercise

Chen Guangbiao is a controversial philanthropist. On the one hand, he donated a lot of money to help people in need. He was nominated for many awards and portrayed as a person with a real kind, warm heart. There is no doubt that for the people he helped, he is worthy of any award related to philanthropy.

On the other hand, his donations to charities are always implemented in unusual ways. That includes stacking piles of cash to form a wall for a photo or dancing on the rooftops of brand new cars that he bought for a donation. He said in an interview that he just wants rich people in China to give more to the society so that he’ll do anything to get their attention. But if we look at the business development of his company, we can see the “benefit” to be a famous philanthropist – he got many governmental projects since he became a famous philanthropist. So it should be no surprise that some media implied that his ulterior motive of donation is to get enough attention then develop his business in China.
