Vocabulary 词汇


Booth/Stand – a temporary (短期的) table and setup normally used at summits and conventions, or for selling goods (产品).

Ex. It is my responsibility to make that every company has their own stand/booth at our summit.*

*Note: normally, the word “stand” is only used for food; for example, Ice Cream stand, hot dog stand, etc. However, the two words are the same when not talking about food.

Cosmetology – the study of cosmetics

Ex. In college, I majored in cosmetics.

Fidgety – a person who has a difficult time staying still

Ex. Most people are fidgety when they are children, but some of us have trouble staying still even as adults.

Pit – a very large seed, like the kind inside Peaches and Avocados.

Ex. In China, peach pits are used to make prayer beads.

Smooth – soft to touch, not rough

Ex. After peach pit beads have been handled for a long time, the pits become smooth.

Arabic – 阿拉伯语

Ex. Arabic is spoken in the Middle East and North Africa.

Uighur – the Turkic language spoken in Xinjiang that is written using the Arabic alphabet

Ex. To foreigners, Uighur and Arabic look like the same language.

Calligraphy – the artistic style of written language, 书法

Ex. Both Chinese and Arabic have strong traditions of calligraphy.
