eg. The presentation next Monday is a big deal to me.

keeping up appearances– where you  pretend everything is great to the public so they don’t know that anything is wrong

keeping up appearances can be more casual  like being social and going out to keep up with the social scene

eg. I need to keep up appearances and network with people every week.

eg. Her mom dresses and acts really happy when she is around other people but we know she is just keeping up appearances.
