Vocabulary

literal – the original meaning of a word, direct without any slang or idiom

eg: “What’s up? The sky. No, not literally.”

figuratively – the new meaning of a phrase or word. based on context or expressions

eg: “Do you mean figuratively, or literally?”

in awe – you are shocked and amazed

eg: “When I first saw the waterfalls in Havasupai, I was completely in awe.”

cool – (literal) a temperature in between cold and room temperature

eg: “My coffee cooled down too much, now I don’t want it.”

to be beat ADJ. – to be tired or exhauasted

eg: “I was beat after I had my thai boxing lesson.”

chill out – 1. as a command 2. as a verb

eg: 1. “Chill out, it’s not a big deal.” “I’m just gonna chill after work, I don’t think I’ll go out.”

chilly – a little cold

eg: “It’s really chilly in here.” “You should chill (v.) coconut water before you drink it.”
