F2F Class Notes 17th October (Tony)

Q: Did you find any problems with the optical tests today?

A: There are always various problems.

Chromatic  aberrations – problems with the color, a defect with the lens system that will distort the image. eg:

Optical element(doesn’t move)

Mechanical component(moving part)

the fit tolerance is flawed, there is not enough clearance.

clearance – to have enough space/ to be appropriate size. eg: “The lens element is too large, so there is not enough clearance to fit in the mechanical component.” “The lens element(glass) is not the right size.”

In the optical industry lenses are often called, Convex or Concave.

Spherical(adj) Sphere(n) perfect equally(=) round shape

Aspherical (adj) not a perfect round shape. eg:  “Lenses with aspherical elements are usually better.” “Sometimes lenses have 1 or 2 aspherical elements, and the rest of the elements are spherical.”

Sphere – s Feer.

Aspherical – A sfeer i cul

eg: The diameter of the element is 2 inches. The radius of the element is 1 inch.

We manufacture DSLR and Camera-phone lenses.
