Chinese New Year is coming soon/will come soon, but I’m not interested because I don’t have the feeling of when I was a child.
In my childhood, I wouldn’t get any snacks and toys before CNY. So when it was almost Chinese New Year, my parents prepared a lot of candy, fruits and all kinds of dishes. They got the hongshaorou which is a pork dish, the braised fish, chicken, etc. ready. Many of my favorite dishes needed a long time to cook. I always watched my mom cook the dishes because I could learn how to cook, it was very interesting. Then we enjoyed dinner very slowly. After dinner, my parents gave the red packets to my brother and me, we were so happy. Usually, I got RMB20 in my red packet which was a lot of money for me. However, my mom always said “Don’t waste your money, let me save it for you,” then she took the red packet back from me. On that evening in the last 5 minutes/Five minutes before midnight, everyone would set off firecrackers at the doorway to celebrate the new year.
