Vocabulary

overtime – working more than 40 hours in a week, depending on your company.

eg: ” When I work overtime I get paid ‘time and a half, so I get 1.5x (One point five times) my normal salary.”

leek – da cong – looks like a long onion, but not as strong smell or taste

eg: “I don’t like onions, leeks or anything like that.”

would – means, will + if

eg: you would know if had some stinky tofu in my bag

Vacation – to take a trip, or some days off of work or school

eg: “I have a vacation from the 27th of January to the 3rd of February.”

except – all things but this one.

eg: “I like all food except stinky tofu.”


Q: Did you have the day off today?

A: No, I worked today.

Q:When is your next day off?

A: My next day off is Saturday.

Q: What’s your schedule like next week?

A: I work from 8:45 to 5:30 everyday/ Monday to Friday, except Wednesday.

Q: Do you work overtime this week?

A: Yes, of course, I work overtime every week.

Q: Do you have any meetings on the weekend?

A: No, I don’t have overtime this weekend. About half the time I work overtime on the weekends.
