New year in Japan

Since I was married, I spend new year with my family at parents in low’s home in Japan. It is almost the same style about new year in Japan and China, but there are some different things to do between two countries. Especially new year dishes. In China, we have Chinese new year from past and we never spent common new year. We make a lot of special dishes on new year eve to share with each other. In south China, every family member makes dumplings together around tables and eat them for dinner on new year eve. We believe we should have the most nice dishes to share in the end of the year. But in Japan, housewives make most of dishes before new year and they eat them for breakfast on new year morning. In the past, Japanese housewives did all of household every day, but From new year morning, they stopped working for three days for themselves.

New Year in Japan

Since I got married, I spend New Year’s with my family at parents-in-law’s home in Japan. NY’s is almost the same style in Japan and China, but there are some different celebrations between these two countries especially New Year’s dishes. In China, we follow the Chinese calendar from thousands of years ago and we never celebrate the international new year. We make a lot of special dishes on new year’s eve to share with each other. In the south of China, every family member makes dumplings around the table together and eats them for dinner on New Year’s Eve. We believe we should have the nicest dishes to share at the end of the year.
