Vocabulary

Possession – something you have, it is yours

eg: “He has possession of that building.”  “All his possessions are at his home.”

Contraction – a word made from two or more other words.

eg: “Can’t, is the contraction for Can not.”    “I’m is the contraction for I am.”      “He’s is the contraction for He is.”      “They’re is the contraction for They are.”   Shouldn’t  Should not. Shouldnt’ve Should not have.

handle – to do the work required for (something)

eg: “I need to handle some problems at work.”


Grammar

Possession – show who something belongs to

  1. Use an       ( ‘s )      after a noun.     That pen belongs to Angela (N.).       That is Angela‘s Pen.

Use the correct word to show possession or as a contraction:

Whose finances do you manage? Possession

Who’s in the kicthen? Contraction  (Who is)

Whose shoe is this? Possession

Who’s going to dinner with us? Contraction

___ car are you driving? Whose (possession)  I’m driving his car.   I’m driving her car.  I’m driving my car.

_____ working on the report?   Who’s (contraction)        He’s working on the report.

____ phone is on the table?    Whose (possession)   His phone is on the table.

_____ talking to the boss now?  Who’s (contraction)   She’s talking to the boss.

_____ handling the new account?   Who’s (contraction)     She is (not a contraction) handling the new account.
