*Note: to say “I ate a cake” means that you ate the whole cake. “I ate some cake” means you ate only part of a cake.
Vocabulary 词汇
Document – any formal piece of paper, usually for applications
Ex. To get a passport, you need to prepare all of your documents.
Passport – a document that lets you go to other countries
Ex. Only people born in China can have a Chinese passport.
Visa – a document that says you are allowed to go into another country
Ex. In order to get into China, a foreigner needs a Chinese visa.
Check-in – to give your suitcase to the airport so that you don’t have to carry it
Ex. Before we board (get on) an airplane, we should check-in our biggest suitcases.
Flight – the noun of “to fly,” also used when talking about airplanes
Ex. I have a flight at 2:00. (I have a ticket to board an airplane that leaves at 2:00).
Flight Attendant* – a person who works on a plane to give everyone food and drinks and to keep everyone safe
*Note: sometimes, a flight attendant is called a steward (man) or stewardess (woman)
Ex. Because they often deal with people, most flight attendants are very nice.
To deal with – to talk to or work with, 打交道
Ex. Flight attendants often deal with people.
Complimentary – free, without cost
Ex. If you are on an airplane for a very long time, the flight attendants usually give complimentary meals.
Expressions 成语
When we talk to kings and queens, we call them “your highness.”
Ex. Would you like a glass of water, your highness?
