Why do we need the rotation program and what outcomes do we desire?

Ask the specific reasons why we need the rotation program and which outcomes we want.
I know the purpose is to prepare suitable developers who are knowledgeable in multiple products and to challenge the incoming trend. However,  what exactly do we want?
Do we want the developers who are familiar with 2 products? In that way, knowledge sharing between 2 products is an easier and better way.
Do we want the developers who can  work flexibly between 2 products? In that way, rotation between 2 products is necessary, and the rotation period should be longer than half a year. However It’s hard to implement the rotation program because less people want to be involved.
2) I have taken extra effort to catch up with the development in EPG. Therefore, I’m at a disadvantage to become a senior engineer, because I spent half a year on another product.
3) It would be wonderful if we have some incentives for developers involved in the rotation program because they could attract other developers to join. After I told my colleagues that I would rotate to MME, they thought I made the wrong decision. They believed that I would not progress much with MME and I would not gain more experience with EPG.Therefore, we need an incentives for the developers in the rotation program.

Because when I told other colleagues in private that I would rotate to MME, no one think I made the right decision, because I was told that I would not know about MME much and I would not became more experienced in EPG. However it’s true.
