I just finished a bake class – I just finished a baking class.
It take a long time for cook – It takes a long time to cook.
Vocabulary
Oven – used for baking and cooking, 炉子
Yeast – 酵母, a kind of fungus that helps bread rise
Ex. Yeast allows the bread to rise.
Baking Soda – 发粉, is a man-made chemical used for cooking and can help bread rise
Rye bread – brown bread
Ex. This sandwich is ham on rye.
Wheat – 小麦
Fungus – 菌
Vinegar – 醋*
*Note: in the USA, saying “vinegar” generally means white vinegar, not brown vinegar like in China.
Condiment – a sauce or spice that you can add to cooked food, in restaurants, these are on the table
Ex. Ketchup, Salt, Pepper, Soy Sauce, Vinegar
Ingredient – sauces, spices, or foods used to cook dishes (you cannot find these on the table)
Ex. Chicken, onion,
Onion – 洋葱
Chips – can refer to French fries (long, thin, fried potato), or to crisps (round, thin, fried potato) 在美国是薯片, 在英国是薯条

Crisps (remember to pronounce both “S” sounds)
