Specialists= a person who has a special skill, or special knowledge in a certain subject.

eg: we called in specialists to confirm our design plans.

Building regulations= rules that you have to follow

eg: Our new structure is subject to the local building regulations.

Holiday home: a house that you go to have a holiday in(vacation)

eg Lets go to our holiday home for the weekend.

Commuter cities: cities outside of shanghai that you can travel into shanghai from

eg: I dont really want to live to in a commuter city so I plan to stay in Shanghai.

Outskirts= the edge of the city

eg: I dont like living on the outskirts of the city.

Deposit= money put down on something

eg: You have to put a big deposit down to buy a house in Shanghai.

Investment properties drove the housing prices up.= people buying houses to rent for a profit have caused housing prices to increase.

Increased by a third= the price went up by a third.

Go with the flow= just see what happens, continue as you are and see what happens..

Eg: I dont have any plans, i prefer to go with the flow.

In my little family= in my immediate family

Family gatherings= (less formal) get togethers

Return= there and back

Eg; it takes me 2 hours if I get a return flight./ it takes me two hours one way

I lived on college= I lived on campus in a dorm

Independently

Eg I want to live independently

A taster= a sample of something, not just limited to food.

Eg Im taking a taster music class.

Mandatory= Something you have to do.

Eg Taking English was a mandatory lesson.
