There’s a research online shows that small dogs live longer than its big-sized counterparts, which is interesting, because for mammals, people have a common sense that larger animals usually have a longer lifespan, for example, elephants can live much more years than mice.
However, this research is about one species, and it mention the fact that some large-bodied dogs could averagely live 8 or 9 years while small dogs could live 12 or 13 years. Scientists consider maybe it’s due to faster metabolism causing higher cancer rate, and they believe that this explanation can be the same with human.
Moreover, they find out another interesting part through this research that even the same-sized dogs can live different years. Generally speaking, some certain breeds of dogs have a short lifespan than others, which is because most of those dogs are artificially bred by people who doesn’t care about their health. The only thing those people care about is good looking and behaviors of their ‘purebred’ dogs, which is kind of pathetic.
Whether faster metabolism can accurate aging is still a speculation so far, but scientists believe that by studying in dogs, they will find out the conclusion soon.
