Gun control and gun right (lilyl)
No issue seems too much controversial in America as much as like guns. Quite a large part of people oppose gun control while the other people worried about gun safety. Why gun control is so difficult in America? After reading severals passages, it got me know that gun issue is not only a political problem but also a cultural problem.
In America, the gun debate is concentrated on two belief of guns. The deep south(essentially the south America people)support the gun right, because they believe owning a gun is a honor traditional culture. When their country colonized by the UK, people took firearms to defend themselves and their hometown. Finally, through guns they got the dependence for their country. In nowadays, some Americans who live in rural also need a gun to protect their security. Therefore, some conservative believe that gun right is more important than gun control. On the other hand, the yankeedom value education, intellectual achievement and citizen participation in government as a shield against tyranny. They request some modest gun-safety policies, such as background check, a ban on assault weapons and so on.
In my opinion, I oppose gun control for two reasons. Above all, it’s unrealistic to abolish private gun ownership in America, because the gun right is longstanding belief existed in the majority Americans’ mind. They believe gun right is also a human right and every one can equally own the gun right. Secondly, the gun-safety laws has already existed in laws. There is more complex factors in society, gun control can’t promise gun violence will be disappeared. But I agree some modest policies should be take to reduce gun violence, such as strict background check and gun license and so on.

Gun control and gun rights (Lily L)
No issue seems so controversial in America as much as guns. Quite a large portion of people oppose gun control while the other people are worried about gun safety. Why is gun control so difficult in America? After reading several passages, it helped me understand that the gun issue is not only a political problem but also a cultural problem.
In America, the gun debate is concentrated on two gun beliefs. In the deep south(essentially the southeast corner of America) they support the gun rights, because they believe owning a gun is an inalienable right of citizens in their country. When their country was a colony of the UK, people took up arms to defend themselves and their towns. Finally, through guns they got the independence for their country. Nowadays, some Americans who live in rural area also need a gun for security. Therefore, some conservatives believe that gun rights are more important than gun control. On the other hand, the yankeedom value education, intellectual achievement and citizen participation in government as a shield against tyranny. They request some modest gun-safety policies, such as background checks, a ban on assault weapons and so on.

Above all, it’s unrealistic to abolish private gun ownership in America, because gun rights is a longstanding belief that exists in the majority of Americans’ minds. They believe gun rights is also a human right and every one can equally own guns. (Haha, I don’t think so.)  Secondly, some gun-safety laws already exist. There are more complex factors in society, gun control can’t promise gun violence will disappear. But I agree some modest policies should be considered to reduce gun violence, such as strict background checks and gun licenses.
