There are few habits as infuriating as someone making us wait. I have a friend, who is always late. So sometime I will tell her to come 30 minutes earlier than she needs to make sure that we can arrive on time for our dinner reservation. It seems like that she knows very well that everyone feels annoyed by her tardiness, but she can’t make any change for that.

It is interesting to think why such kind of late people is often aware and also ashamed of the damage their lateness could do to their relationships, reputations and careers, but they still cannot change it. The most important reason might be the problem of self- discipline. The late people can find thousands of excuses for being late. Some of the excuses are reasonable, such as accident or illness, but some of them are ridiculous, for example, they cannot decide what to wear. So the best way to solve this problem might be to help these late people develop their abilities on self-discipline to organize everything very well in advance and be punctual. As friends of these late people, if we are sick of being left waiting by these tardy friends, set boundaries and consequences for missing appointments could help them to overcome procrastination.
