Writing exercise

Gone are the days of secretarial typing pool and hardback desk dictionaries. Now we conduct much of our daily business by quick-fire finger-jabbing on tiny screens. With the increase of pressure on responding quickly and more efficient, it’s likely a typo will creep into our written communication. Even though the smart technology may help to some extent, for example, to correct the spelling or grammatical mistakes automatically, there is no doubt that such kind of autocorrect may also insert some words inappropriate or worse, some words with meaning far away from we want to say.

Nowadays, it seems like that we have already gotten used to work on computer, and the autocorrect function just make us become more lazy and pay less attention on our spelling. But in fact the humble typo not only has the power to make us appear less intelligent than we are. Poor spelling can also create confusion, and in extreme cases it can cost millions in missed sales and job opportunities.

I think it will be better to be right and to seem slightly fussy than to end up upsetting somebody because of basic errors that they feel extremely strongly about.

Gone are the days of secretarial typing pools and hardback desk dictionaries. Now we conduct much of our daily business by quick-fire finger-jabbing on tiny screens. With the increase of pressure on responding quickly and more efficiently, it’s likely a typo will creep into our written communication. Even though smart technology may help to some extent, for example, to spellcheck/(correct the spelling) or correct grammatical mistakes automatically, it is inevitable/(there is no doubt) that such kind of autocorrect may also insert some inappropriate words or worse, some words with meaning far from what we want to say.

Nowadays, it seems like/that we have already gotten used to working on computers, and the autocorrect function just make us become lazier and pay less attention to our spelling. But in fact, the simple typo has the power to make us appear less intelligent than we (really) are. Poor spelling can also create confusion, and in extreme cases it can cost millions in missed sales and job opportunities.
