My favorite song – Space oddity

This song is released by David Bowie in 1969, a period of great interest in space flight.

“Space Oddity” tells the story of Major Tom whose space adventure ends in tragedy as he floats away from the spaceship

i was attracted by the odd melody and meaningful lyrics.

It expressed the disappointments of human beings from the lyrics: Planet Earth is blue, but there is nothing I can do. Here, blue can be explained as “sad”.

Also, it expressed “brave” and “freedom” in this song. I think the engine was not broke, but Major Tom turned it off. He want to escape from the “blue planet” and explore a new space by himself.

I recommend you close your eyes and image the scene when you listen this song and you will feel the courage of Major Tom and the spirt of pursuing freedom from David Bowie.

I was touched by the odd melody and meaningful lyrics

(I was touched = time is clear –> when was it? the first time you heard it?)

It expresses the disappointments of human beings in its lyrics: “Planet Earth is blue, but there is nothing I can do.” Here, blue can be explained as “sad”.

Also, it expresses “brave” and “freedom” in this song. I think the engine was not broken, but Major Tom (intentionally) turned it off. He wanted to escape from the “blue planet” and explore space by himself.

I recommend you close your eyes and imagine the scene when you listen to this song. You will feel the courage of Major Tom and the spirit of pursuing freedom from David Bowie. (who gets a feeling a freedom? You or David Bowie? Do you pursue freedom or David Bowie’s freedom?)
