(IELTS writing test. Question:Public libraries should only provide books and not waste their resources on multimedia materials such as CDs or DVDs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?)

As an open space to citizens, public libraries can be both educational and entertaining. Some people think that it’s a waste of resources if libraries (they) contain multimedia material such as CDs or DVDs. I tend to disagree with this view.
Although books are the main reason why people go to the library, multimedia materials such as CDs and DVDs are necessary as well. Including them increases the diversity of resources available to people. Audiovisual materials are a very common form of media that can hold a lot of information. They are formed by mixing sound and animated images, which makes up for the absence of the text and still images.

Furthermore, computers are widely used in libraries around the world, it would be a waste if people could only use them for managing books.
There still are some issues people should aware of, such as, the need to use earphones in order to keep the noise down and not distracting others, as well as needing to put the resources back when they have finished using them.
I believe that multimedia materials are not a waste of resources and could be well used, provided the libraries and citizens work together to keep them sorted and preserved.

Although books are the main reason that bring people go to the library, multimedia materials such as CDs and DVDs are necessary as well. People can have more choices because of its diversity. Audiovisual materials are very common media to contain information. It is formed by sound and animated images and makes up for the deficiency of the text and images. Furthermore, computers are widely used in libraries, it will be a waste if people only use them for the system of managing books.
There still are some issues people should aware of. Such as putting the earphones on and keeping the noise of playing multimedia material to their self, putting them back when they finish the playing.
I believe that multimedia materials are not a waste of resources and could be well used, if the libraries and citizens work together to keep them being sorted and preserved.
