Vocabulary
Thesis (n): 1- a long piece of writing on a particular subject, especially one that is done for a higher college or university degree.
E.g.: She’s writing her doctoral thesis (= for a PhD) on Chinese politics.
E.g.: He will defend his master’s thesis in December.
Portfolio (n): 1- a collection of drawings, documents, etc. that represent a person’s, especially an artist’s, work.
E.g.: She’s trying to build up a portfolio of work to show during job interviews.
Objective (n): 1- based on real facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings.
E.g.: I can’t really be objectirve when I’m judging my daughter’s work.
Subjective (n): 1- influenced by or based on personal beliefs or feelings, rather than based on facts:
E.g.: I think my husband is the most handsome man in the world, but I realize my judgment is very subjective.
Incremental (adj): 1- in a series of amounts.
E.g.: Most research proceeds by small incremental advances.
E.g.: Changes at the newspaper are more incremental than radical.
Incriminate (n): 1- to make someone seem guilty, especially of a crime.
E.g.: A secret report incriminating the company was leaked last week.
E.g.: He refused to say anything on the grounds that he might incriminate himself.
