The video gives a brief introduction about four traditional development technologies of vaccines and two new technologies. The four traditional technologies rely on weakened virus, dead virus, inert toxin and small part of virus respectively. All vaccines developed by these technologies need to grow and transport significant amount of pathogens, which will take a lot of time. In addition, the approval procedure will take a few years. Therefore, the traditional development methods of vaccines usually will take five to ten years to get the final approval of FDA to put on the market in the US. The two new technologies involve mRNA and DNA, which can shrink the timeline of development stage and are used to develop vaccines against Covid-19. Although vaccines using these two technologies still have their own drawbacks, such as strict storage conditions and update requirement for the carrier virus. Moreover, such technologies are also expected to be used to develop other vaccines, which may treat cancer and HIV in the future.
