Writing exercise
In general, projects situated in high biodiversity areas, such as the Amazon rain forest, or with a complex social component, like resettlement of vulnerable families or adverse impacts on minorities, are the most risky project I dealt with in my career.
Working as an environmental and social specialist we do have to consider a multifactorial risk matrix, to classify, firstly, the severity of the risks and, secondly, propose mitigation measures for all of the impacts and risk identified. Hence, a risk-factor matrix is based on 3 main ideas: related risks, performance risks and reputation risks, and have to consider the environment and the social components. For instance, an E&S risk matrix shall consider whether the project will trigger either negative impacts on endangers species or involuntary resettlement related to minorities or vulnerable groups. Also, the performance factor will analyze if the client has the capability (or capacity) to mitigate the adverse impacts or even if it has any E&S accident previously reported.
