amend (v):to change the words of a text, especially a law or a legal document
修订，修正，修改（法律文件等）
E.g.: MPs were urged to amend the law to prevent another oil tanker disaster.

E.g.: In line 20, “men” should be amended (= changed) to “people”.
第20行中的 men 应改为 people。
E.g.: Until the constitution is amended, the power to appoint ministers will remain with the president.

E.g.: The plumber came to mend the burst pipe.

relieve (v): to make an unpleasant feeling, such as pain or worry, less strong
缓解，减轻，解除（疼痛或担忧）；使宽心，使宽慰
E.g.: She was given a shot of morphine to relieve the pain.
