I would like to put emphasis (n) on

emphasis (n):the particular importance or attention that is given to something
重视;强调
E.g.: I think we should put as much emphasis on preventing disease as we do on curing it.
我认为我们应该像重视治疗一样重视疾病的预防。
E.g.: Schools here put/place/lay great emphasis on written work and grammar.
这里的学校特别重视写作和语法。

emphasize (v):to show that something is very important or worth giving attention to
强调;重视
E.g.: I’d just like to emphasize how important it is for people to learn foreign languages.
我只是想强调一下学习外语的重要性。
E.g.: He emphasized that all the people taking part in the research were volunteers.
他着重指出所有参加这项研究的人都是志愿者。

better, worse, best, worst are adjectives, which can qualify a noun.
more, less, most, least are adverbs, which can modify a verb, adjective, or another adverb.

When you like something, you don’t like it good (adjective) – therefore you cannot like it better, best, worse or worst.

They live in very comfortable/pleasant/drab/bleak surroundings.
