Vocabulary
survive (v)-幸存, to continue to live or exist, especially after coming close to dying or being destroyed or after being in a difficult or threatening situation:
E.g.: These plants cannot survive in very cold conditions.
E.g.: Dodos didn’t survive, they became extinct.
habitat (n): 1-生活环境,栖息地 ,the place where a particular type of animal or plant is normally found
E.g.: The panda’s natural habitat is the bamboo forest.-大熊猫的天然栖息地是竹林。
E.g.: With so many areas of woodland being cut down, a lot of wildlife is losing its natural habitat.
extinct (adj): 1-not now existing:
E.g.: There is concern that the giant panda will soon become extinct.
extinction (n): 灭绝
E.g.: Many species of plants and animals are threatened with extinction.
endangered (adj): 1-濒危的, endangered birds/plants/species
animals or plants that may soon not exist because there are very few now alive
E.g.: Yangze river dolphins are endangered

quagga-a kind of zebra, now extinct
sanctuary (n): 1-a place where birds or animals can live and be protected, especially from being hunted or dangerous conditions:
E.g.: a wildlife/bird sanctuary
species (n)-物种, a set of animals or plants in which the members have similar characteristics to each other and can breed with each other:
E.g.: Mountain gorillas are an endangered species.
E.g.: Over a hundred species of insect are found in this area.
mammal (n): any animal of which the female feeds her young on milk from her own body. Most mammals give birth to live young, not eggs:
E.g.: Humans, dogs, elephants, and dolphins are all mammals, but birds, fish, and crocodiles are not.
marsupial (n): 1-a type of mammal from Australasia or South or Central America that is not completely developed when it is born and is carried around in a pouch (= a body part like a pocket) on the mother’s body, where it is fed and protected until it is completely developed:
E.g.: Marsupials include koalas, possums, and kangaroos.

fossil-化石, the remains of an animal or a plant which have become hard and turned into rock
