Vocabulary

Acronym – a word made from the first letters of every word in a phrase.

Ex. BTW (by the way), TMI (too much information), BOGO (buy one get one).

Acrobat – a person who does flips in the air at the circus.

Contest – competition

Essay – a long piece of writing discussion a topic

Grammar

Transitive Verb – a verb that is used with an object.

Ex. The verb “to drink” can be used both transitively and intransitively. However, using it intransitively (“I’m drinking”) refers to alcohol.

Intransitive Verb – a verb that is used without an object.

Ex. The verb “to shave” can be used intransitively when talking about facial hair.

The verb “to go” cannot be used in passive voice because it is an intransitive verb. An intransitive verb is used without an object. Passive voice is used to emphasize an object. For example, if I ask “who broke the bottle” you can respond “I broke the bottle” and you would be emphasizing that it was you and not someone else. But, if you say “the bottle was broken by me,” you are emphasizing that it was the bottle, and not something else, that you broke.

Expressions

We use the acronym BOGO to refer to things that are Buy One Get One Free.

After 2 weeks, I received my type cover which was my tablet keyboard. Before I sent it to the repairing center, I tried to fix it. I reinstalled the keyboard drive and my operation system even. However, it still didn’t work, so I decided to send it to repairing center. No matter what, the server persuade me to try to fix it again. Then, after I received my type cover, I knew my decision was right because it run fluency.
